The show features a series of paintings inspired by Amsterdam, created in the city during the month leading up to the opening, in celebration of Amsterdam’s 750-year anniversary. The series explores “portals” that frame the rural and domestic sides of the city.
Andrew Modlin is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work explores the tension between memory and media, the digital and the organic. After earning his BFA from UCLA, he went on to co-found MedMen, where he redefined cannabis retail through immersive design.
Despite his success in business, he returned to painting full-time, translating quick iPad sketches from his travels into richly layered compositions. His current work blends vibrant color, digital motifs, and expressive mark-making to evoke landscapes that are at once real, remembered, and imagined.
